Before Groovy Moo, founder Michelle ran a successful ice cream Parlour in Bridlington for 15 years with husband Sean. The couple had always dreamt of making their own ice cream which would stand out from a sea of similar brands. Unfortunately, Sean was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, his wish was to be cared for by Michelle at home. Whilst Michelle was caring for Sean she discovered traditional Italian gelato. We loved the idea of making an authentic product full of fresh, natural & quality ingredients. So next they were looking for a site to produce and sell to the public and wholesale our product.. We had read an article in a local newspaper about some food production units under renovation for the food/retail sector. Following her visions Michelle went along to have a look and could imagine people sitting, chatting and eating gelato, just like they do abroad but realized some people don’t get the opportunity. Michelle couldn’t wait to go back and relay all the information to Sean who said “go for it” and as Sean was born and bred in Malton, it seemed meant to be. Unfortunately, Sean never saw it finished as he sadly passed away in September 2014 but his legacy lives on in the company.
The shop opened in May 2015 and was the first shop open on Talbot Yard. The shop caters for all including gluten free, vegan etc, nobody is exempt. We source all ingredients locally where possible. Michelle passion shines through her gelato display cabinet and she says it reflects her fun personality! Seeing her customers smile and enjoy the gelato brings her joy in these troubling times. “Groovy Moo has been part of my healing, Gelato is my passion, developing new flavours in our production kitchen and seeing customers happy faces is priceless. Its not a job it’s a way of life. We are a family business, everyone is involved”.
